Moving to or within Groningen
If you are relocating within Groningen or moving from another municipality in the Netherlands to Groningen, make sure to inform the municipality within 4 weeks before and 5 days after your move.
Change your address and register
- You can only report a move for yourself and family members living with you.
- No rental or purchase agreement? Then follow the steps under 'no rental agreement'.

Take
- Valid proof of identity (passport, ID card, driver's license).
- Rentalagreement. Does it concern your own owner-occupied property? Then a purchase agreement is not necessary. The details from the land register are known to us.
- If you do not have a rental contract: written permission (pdf 409 kB) from the owner or one of the adult residents + a copy of the identity document of the person who gives permission.
Report by post
You can also send a change of address to: Gemeente Groningen, P.O. Box 30026, 9700 RM Groningen. Include the following information:
- Rental agreement. Does it concern your own owner-occupied property? Then a purchase agreement is not necessary. The details from the land register are known to us.
- If you don’t have a rental agreement: Declaration residency (pdf 97 kB) by the owner or one of the adult residents.
- Copy of a valid ID of the person who gives permission.
- Official first and last name.
- Date of birth.
- Moving date.
- Old and new address.
- Telephone number.
- Names of the people that are moving with you.
- Copy of valid ID (passport, ID card or driver's license) of all moving persons.
- Signature.
No rental agreement?
Do you not have a rental agreement? In order to register at that address, you need permission from the owner or one of the adult residents, also if you live with your parents or partner.
How to register without rental agreement
You report the change of address online together with the owner or one of the adult residents who gave you permission. You both have to login into DigiD to confirm the registration.

Not possible to report the change of address together?
Report the change of address by sending the following attachments through our contact form.
- Declaration of residency (pdf 97 kB) by the person giving permission.
- Copy or photo of a valid identity document of the person given permission.
Confirmation
After the relocation date, you will receive a confirmation at your new home address within 2 weeks.
