Citizen voting for the election as a non-Dutch

On Thursday, June 6, 2024, the elections for the European Parliament will take place in the Netherlands. You have the option to choose which country you wish to vote for: the Netherlands or the country of which you are a national.

If you choose to vote for the Netherlands, you will be voting for Dutch members of the European Parliament. You will no longer be able to vote for the country of which you are a national! You can only vote for one country.

I want to vote for the Dutch members of the European Parliament

If you wish to vote for the Dutch members of the European Parliament, you must apply for this no later than April 23, 2024. This can be done in two ways: online or in-person at the municipal office.

You can vote for the European Parliament in the Netherlands if you:

  • have the nationality of an EU country;
  • are 18 years or older on June 6, 2024;
  • live in the municipality of Groningen;
  • are not excluded from the right to vote.

Online

Log in with your DigiD. Please note that the application page is available only in Dutch. If you wish to view it in another language, you can use the translation option in your browser.

Applications for voting in the Netherlandsexterne-link-icoon (with DigiD)

In-person at the municipal office

Are you unable to apply online? You can visit the Centrum Office (Kreupelstraat 1) and fill out the application form. Remember to bring your passport or identity card. The Centrum Office is open Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00, and on Thursdays until 19:00.

Do you want to withdraw your application?

Have you applied to vote for the Dutch members of the European Parliament? But now wish to vote for the country of which you are a national instead? In that case, you must first withdraw your application!

To do so, follow the same steps on the website as you did for the application. When asked ‘Deelnemen aan Europese verkiezingen’ (Participate in the European elections), select ‘Nee’ (No).

Alternatively, you can visit the Centrum Office and fill out a form to withdraw your application. You can withdraw your application until April 23, 2024. If you fail to withdraw your application on time, you will not be able to vote for the country of which you are a national.

I want to vote for the country of which I am a national

If you wish to vote for the country of which you are a national, you do not need to apply at the municipality. For more information on how to vote for the country of which you are a national, see the website of the European Parliamentexterne-link-icoon.
