Xi'an is the capital of the Chinese province of Shaanxi. It was once the capital of China. Xi'an is the eastern terminal of the Silk Road and is situated on the River Wei huh. In former times it was called Chang'an, also known as "celestial peace '.

Its population is estimated to have on average 4 million inhabitants and 7.5 million inhabitants in the surrounding area that includes the city of Xianyang (the size of nearly 10,000 km ²). Xi'an has, partly as a result of the Silk Road, a large Muslim neighborhood that is home to the old 1250 year old Great Mosque of Xi’an.

The city is the heart of early Chinese civilization. The Qin Dynasty, the first dynasty that unified China, had its capital clos to Xi'an. The tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi with its Terracotta Army is close to the city for people to visit.
