The three mayors of the city of Groningen, Oldenburg and Bremen signed a joint agreement in 2009 to strengthen the inter-connecting links. The cities have not only shown that they can cooperate with each other in town halls, but also that they can continue to work together due to long-term relationships lasting through various institutions and companies. To strengthen the organization, the three cities established the so-called Trilateral Vaktreffen.
Congress
The cities of Bremen, Oldenburg and Groningen are all connecting institutions and bring companies together. The aim is to provide a platform for entrepreneurs, institutions and local counterparts to share an exeprience and retain similar knowledge. In 2009, the Vaktreffen was organized by Oldenburg. That same autumn, it took place in Bremen. In November 2010 it was organized by Groningen Vaktreffen. Collaborating with the German partners is also important from a European perspective. It is increasingly important for cities to operate in international networks.
Vaktreffen 2011
This year's Vaktreffen will take place on the 11th of October, in Oldenburg.
Eight themes have been selected:
- Healthy Ageing
- Energy and Sustainability
- Urbanism and city development
- "Fensterschule"
- Concept "Zwischenzeitnutzung '- creative solutions for temporary vacancies. (This is part of the EU project Creative City Challenge)
- The project MICK (girls soccer)
- Sports
- Internationalization / China

- 09:00 Everyone departs together by bus from Groningen
- 10:45 Reception at the Town Hall Stadt Oldenburg (Markt 1)
- 11:30 Plenary meeting, reception by Oberbürgemeister Jens Böhrnsen.

Practical information
The plenary’s are held in the German language. This applies in principle to all table groups, unless the group decides otherwise. At the start, every table groups will appoint a chairman to provide the plenary feedback.
The city of Groningen provides the bus transport Groningen-Oldenburg. Because the municipality of Groningen promotes sustainability, please use this option and do not go seperately by car. The networking will then start on departure.
